My name is Marivic Divina, I'm a freelance food photographer living in So. California.

A few years ago, I discovered my passion in photography when I was on a 3-month culinary internship in the South of France. As with any new intern, I started in the prep area scrubbing truffles, peeling potatoes and trimming rack of lamb. Two weeks later, I asked my chef if I could come in during service and take pictures. I couldn’t wait to begin cooking so I thought I would observe on how they do things... It was almost summer time in Provence and golden hour lingered through the evening. The kitchen had this big glass window on the west side overlooking the picturesque landscape of the village. While I was waiting for the dinner service to start,  soft light gently coming in, iluminating a small piece of fried meat that was sitting on the black kitchen counter. With zero knowledge in photography, I took the first shot. I was intrigued and amazed how a sliver of light would create a mystical image....  Moments later the chef poured coulis de maïs on a frosted glass plate. Pushing the sauce in circular motion using the back of the ladle for the truffle (truffe en croûte) to rest on; then he added the pop-corn in a stacato manner as he exclaimed, "service, s'il vous plaît!"

It was truly a unique experience, chasing and framing the almost choreographed motions in the kitchen.  My passion for cooking took me to France and to my surprise, it lead to another....
